Beena Soni 2010 Jalabiyas Collection

If you thought that jalabiyas were just long, loose, embroidered robes, a visit to Beenas Collection outlet would make you think otherwise. Designed by the one and only Indian designer Beena Soni, the jalabiyas of Beenas Collection are in short, examples of fashion renaissance.

“Everybody needs a change,” Beena Soni tells City Times during her fashion show at this year’s Abu Dhabi Bride Show.”You cannot go on with the usual traditional cut of jalabiya. As trends change, fashion changes, and so as a designer I fully take advantage of my ideas, using different materials in term of fabrics and trimmings to fashion something that is innovative.”

Steal that style: Princess Beatrice of York

Beatrice performed a small role, believed to be a non-speaking one, in the film the Young Victoria, a Martin Scorsese production covering the story of Queen Victoria’s romance with Prince Albert, making her the first member of the Royal family to appear in a movie. Her mother, the Duchess of York, who is known to have an active interest in Queen Victoria, is one of the film’s executive producers

Princess Beatrice will appear as a lady-in-waiting in a scene from the coronation of her great-great-great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria.”It was tiring and I was freezing cold, but I absolutely loved it,” she is reported to have said after finishing filming Victoria’s coronation at Lincoln Cathedral. “I am so excited about it.” She was dressed in a full white gown with a tight corset top and matching headdress for her first day of shooting.

Reverie 2009 Bridal Collection

Born in New York, Lia Mcnairy acquired her taste for elegance in fashion and life while growing up in Brussels at the American Embassy in the late 70′s and later in St. Remy de Provence in the South of France. As a child Lia would sit at the top of the staircase at the embassy watching the parade of beautiful evening gowns at all the black tie balls, dreaming of one day becoming a designer of all that is beautiful and luxurious.

Mcnairy met Melissa Sweet while shopping for her own custom designed gown in 2003. Lia is now pleased to bring her talent & passion for all things simple and elegant to Melissa Sweet as co-designer for both the Melissa Sweet collection and Reverie by Melissa Sweet.
